Gray Rinehart

Gray Rinehart writes stories, songs, and other things. He is the only person to have commanded an Air Force satellite tracking station, written speeches for Presidential appointees, and had music on The Dr. Demento Show. He is currently a contributing editor (the “Slushmaster General”) for Baen Books.

Gray is the author of the lunar colonization novel Walking on the Sea of Clouds, and his short fiction has appeared in Analog Science Fiction & Fact, Asimov’s Science Fiction, Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show, and multiple anthologies. As a singer/songwriter, he has two albums of mostly science-fiction-and-fantasy-inspired music.

During his rather odd USAF career, Gray fought rocket propellant fires, refurbished space launch facilities, “flew” Milstar satellites, drove trucks, encrypted nuclear command and control orders, commanded the largest remote tracking station in the Air Force Satellite Control Network, and did other interesting things. His alter ego is the Gray Man, one of several famed ghosts of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, and his web site is graymanwrites.com.

Devo Spice

Devo Spice is a nerdy comedy rapper from New Jersey who has been called “the red-headed stepson of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and Eminem.”

Devo Spice performs regularly across the country at science fiction conventions, music clubs, and comedy clubs. His live show features videos and animations synchronized with the music.

Devo Spice has become a popular artist on The Dr. Demento Show. Devo has had nine #1 songs on the show. In 2007—while still performing as “Sudden Death,” the comedy-rap group he founded—Devo held the #1, #2, and #4 positions for most requested songs of the year, and was a guest vocalist on song #5.

The Anarchist’s Jokebook, his newest album, includes several songs which were hits on The Dr. Demento Show, including “Nothin’ but Truth,” “Gravity Is Stupid,” and “Spider Verses,” the #1 most requested song of 2019.

The Logan Whitehurst Memorial Award for Excellence in Comedy Music is awarded each year to comedians who produce exceptional work. Devo Spice has won two of them. In 2015 Devo won the Outstanding Parody Song award for “Snack Bar” and in 2018 he won the Outstanding Original Comedy Song award for “Just for You.”
