Jean Marie Ward writes fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Her first novel, With Nine You Get Vanyr (written with the late Teri Smith) finaled in both the science fiction/fantasy and humor categories of the 2008 Indie Awards. She has published short stories and novellas in venues ranging from Asimov’s to the anthologies of Zombies Need Brains. These include the WSFA Small Press Award finalist, “Lord Bai’s Discovery.”

Her nonfiction credits include two well-regarded art books and the essay “Jedi Mind Tricks: From the Reel to the Real” in Strategy Strikes Back: How Star Wars Explains Modern Military Conflict. She has contributed articles to publications as diverse as the then SciFi Channel’s Science Fiction Weekly and Romance Writers of America’s Romance Writers Report. Her interviews were a regular feature of Buzzy Magazine (buzzymag.com) and Galaxy’s Edge.

A former assistant producer of the local access cable TV program Mystery Reader’s Corner, Ms. Ward edited the respected electronic magazine Crescent Blues (crescentblues.com) for eight years and co-edited the six-volume, fortieth World Fantasy Con anthology, Unconventional Fantasy.
