Fan. Gamer. Geek. Nerd. John is all these things. His first introductions to science fiction came by way of the animated Star Trek series, the original Planet of the Apes films and Mike Grell’s run on DC’s Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes in the mid-70s. A healthy exposure to fantasy, science fiction, comics and gaming over the last 45 years (crap he’s old) have made him into the well-rounded (yes but he is losing weight) geek he is today.

His first science fiction convention was one of the many “one day wonders” featuring original members of the Star Trek cast in the late 80s. He was a con volunteer at Vulkon’s Maryland shows in the 1990s and also served as the head of Con Operations for the 2008 Wrath of Con in Panama City, Florida. More recently, John was recruited (shanghaied?) as a volunteer for Ravencon starting in their second year. After answering a phone call from the con-chair with the phrase “What is your bidding , my master?”, he was made vice-chair for Ravencon, where he has been the “power behind the throne” since 2009.
